Professional Biography
Thomas R. Fritsche, MD, PhD, received both his medical and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at the University of Minnesota, followed by residency and fellowship training at the University of Washington in Seattl, Washington. He is board-certified in both Clinical Pathology and Clinical Microbiology (ABMM) and spent 19 years on the faculty of the Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology at the University of Washington Medical Center, serving most recently as Laboratory Director and Division Head of Clinical Microbiology.

Dr. Fritsche is recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in diagnostic parasitology and microbiology, and has served on various committees for national organizations including College of American Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology, National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards, and American Society for Microbiology.

Dr. Fritsche has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and computer software programs on clinical microbiology topics, served as section editor for parasitology in the Manual of Clinical Microbiology 6th edition and is currently on the editorial boards of Current Microbiology and Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
